The LIGHT House

Reflections on Christams

By Dawn Shipman, Adoption and Maternity Home Case Manager

“‘Tis better to give than to receive.” This is a phrase heard throughout the Christmas season. I always try to live by that. It is often demonstrated by Christian people – especially during Christmas – but never have I truly been a part of and witnessed such giving as I have this year.

We have many kind people in the community that are so generous to the young women and children at The LIGHT House home throughout the year. This Christmas they brought joy to our clients in so many ways – through gifts, parties, personal sacrifice and helping to decorate the home for Christmas.

This year I also witnessed the kindness of our own staff in giving to the women and children at The LIGHT House. I witnessed such authentic joy by many staff in choosing just the right gift and then wrapping those gifts with love. Many gifts were given with the specific likes of each woman and child in mind. Such detail was given to ensure Christmas joy would be had by each person.

It truly is better to give , because we receive so much more!
