FosterAdopt Connect Foster Parent of the Year
By Caroline Bailey, Family Resource Development Supervisor
We are thrilled to announce that one of our Treatment Foster Care (TFC) Parents was awarded the 2017 Southwest Missouri Foster Parent of the Year by FosterAdopt Connect in Springfield! Cindy Withers has served in foster care ministry through MBCH since 2007 and has fostered many children of all ages. She is an incredible TFC parent and MBCH is so thankful for her continued efforts to provide stability, love and permanency for children in need.
Here is what FosterAdopt Connect had to say about her:
“How can you ever pick just one Foster Parent of the Year? It’s not even fair. All of our foster and adoptive parents are heroes. If you have to pick just one, and we did, you couldn’t go wrong with Cindy Withers. Cindy has fostered for years and I’ve had the pleasure of working with Cindy and a host of kids from the early days of Sammy’s Window. She is a great role model and makes a huge difference in the lives of the kids entering her home. She is pictured here with Faith, her adopted daughter whom she fostered previously. Faith is bright and fun to be around. A great testimony to Cindy’s style. Thank you Cindy for all you do in the lives of kids in care!”
An accountant by trade, Cindy felt the Lord leading her into the foster care ministry. She has fostered more than twenty children and her care has extended beyond what is considered traditional foster care. As a TFC parent she has taken in seriously ill children, sibling groups and teenagers.
Her compassion and concern includes caring for the biological families. One example of this is when Cindy fostered a young boy. This child’s parents were working very hard to rectify their situation so they could reunify with their son. Cindy acknowledged this and provided support to the parents. In an act of absolute compassion, she invited the biological parents to her home on Thanksgiving so that they could enjoy the holiday with their son. This is just one example of how she goes above and beyond for children in her care.
The rapport she builds with teenagers and team members is something for which all foster families should strive. She is a team player, respectful of the process and understands the legalities involved in foster care. Cindy also advocates for her foster children and others in the system. She enlists others to get involved in foster parenting and has recruited people within her church to become Treatment Foster Care Parents. Cindy is a huge blessing to MBCH Children and Family Ministries!
Congratulations, Cindy! We value you and the awesome work you do in bringing hope and healing to foster children and biological families!
