We all make mistakes; unfortunately, sometimes those mistakes are ones that have major consequences. Biological parents of children in state custody understand that all too well. Thankfully, God is a God of second chances, and children in state custody can be reunified with their parents. If you watched this case unfold over the last two years, you would see why this reunification celebration was so meaningful. Dana has overcome adversity and personal struggles to get to this day. She laughs that she was difficult to work with in the beginning. Dana’s triumphs remind us that we should have hope and not give up on these parents too quickly.
We had plans to change the case goal to something other than reunification, but things got in the way of that; this time allowed Dana to turn her life around. During this time, she found a friend named Brian who was willing to stand by her and gave her the confidence so that she could fight for her boys. It was a long road and a tough journey, but Brian and Dana’s consistency, determination, and love for the boys gave the team reasons to return Dana’s boys to her home. We celebrated this homecoming with cake and cookies and of course pictures! Dana wanted her story to be told to help others see that parents who have made mistakes still love their children and can make changes.
“You, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.” (Psalm 86:15)
