Recently we had an 11-year-old girl come to our Freedom 43:19 Human Trafficking Rescue program. She had gone through several bouts of homelessness. Since coming to Freedom, our staff have been working diligently to help her recapture her childhood.
When she came to us in November she was unable to read and would write some of her letters backwards; now our staff is working with her every day to help prepare her to be successful in school. Fortunately, her middle school has found a way to love on her and show her support. Working together we have discovered a system that is working for her and helping to ensure she feels safe and comfortable around her teachers and classmates. Her negative behaviors have decreased and she has made significant strides in school especially in reading. This week she received her report card and was excited to see that she had no failing grades! This is the first time in her life that she has succeeded like this. She still has a long road ahead of her before reaching her educational goals but every new step is to be celebrated as she continue down this path.
In her time at Freedom, she has started attending church on a regular basis and looks forward to going on Wednesdays and Sundays. She often asks staff to pray with her and to do her nightly devotions. This young girl has been through so much in such a short period of time, but God is good and is revealing Himself to her and taking hold of her heart.
