MBCH Children and Family Ministries

Foster Parents of the Year

Foster parents are a vital part of the ministry that MBCH Children and Family Ministries provides for hurting children. They are at the front lines, providing a home and stability for children at the most traumatic times in their lives. They work with biological families, caseworkers, and teachers. Often, a foster child’s first experience with church is with one of our foster families.

In recognition of the ministry they provide, MBCH CFM workers nominated families from each area of the state where we provide foster care services as the Foster Parents of the Year. From those winners was chosen a Missouri Foster Parent of the Year.

If you would like to learn more information about becoming a foster family, please call (800) 264-6224 for more information or visit our website at www.mbch.org.

Daan and Sandy Compier: Missouri Foster Family of the Year

Congratulations to Daan and Sandy Compier for being selected as MBCH Children and Family Ministries “Foster Parents of the Year”!

Daan and Sandy have been Treatment Foster Care parents with MBCH (Springfield office) for ten years and have fostered more than twenty-five boys and adolescents. Even after the boys leave their home, the family remains in contact with them.

Sandy and Daan have provided a home filled with compassion and positive role models. They have helped with achieving permanencies in these youths’ lives by being team members and by supporting adoption and/or reunification. Daan and Sandy also feel it is important to teach life skills to foster youth.

An example of their compassion is when Sandy heard that one of their former foster children was homeless, she met him at a park, took him home, fed him, and got him the resources he needed to get into a local homeless shelter.

Daan and Sandy Compier are 2017 MBCHCFM Foster Parents of the Year because of their ministry to foster youth in the hopes of making a lasting difference in the lives of children and families.

Brennan and Donna Davis

Congratulations to Brennan and Donna Davis for being a nominee for 2017 MBCH Foster Family of the Year. The family is one of Joplin office foster homes.

The Davis family is always willing to go above and beyond in their care of children. They have adopted two children after fostering them and even though they recently had a biological child, they continued to provide full-time, respite and emergency care.

The Davis’s recently participated on a STARS foster parent training panel. Their interaction with children is consistently full of teachable moments and empowering through choices. They are team players and MBCH is thankful for their dedication to helping children and families in need!

James, Martha and Emili Schurke

Congratulations go out to the Schurke family for being a nominee for 2017 MBCH Foster Family of the Year.

The family recently fostered a terminally ill baby. They did a wonderful job of including the biological family in the child’s life, even inviting the family to come to their home for visits. They made sure the family got extra time with the baby before he passed away.

The Schurke’s worked well with the case manager and the Hospice team. After the baby passed away, they planned a wonderful memorial service for the child and included the biological family members in the service. They desire to continue helping children and families in need. We are thankful for their service to children and families!
