Second Baptist Church, Springfield Hosts Christmas Party for Foster Families
For the past seven years, Springfield Second Baptist Church has hosted a Christmas Party for MBCH Children and Family Ministries foster families. Food, fun, and fellowship were all present at the “come-and-go” party. Children were able to make Christmas ornaments, participate in games and crafts, construct a nativity scene with stickers and hear the story of the birth of Jesus as told by Mary.
A special part of the night included pictures with Santa Claus! Santa gave each child a special stuffed animal (provided by LifeWay Christian Stores). Church members also donated money to provide gift bags for each child attending. The bags included a winter hat, 2 pairs of socks, pencils, erasers and a Scripture bracelet.
The party was coordinated for the 4th consecutive year by 18-year-old Aubrey Stinson. Aubrey’s motivation for her hard work is her own family. She has 9 siblings, 6 of whom are adopted. She says she has seen what a past without a loving family can do to a child.
“But it goes beyond just an earthly family,” Aubrey said. “We want to show these children how we have been adopted by the Lord and that He loves us no matter what.”
This was Aubrey’s last year to coordinate the party – she is getting married and moving to Nebraska! She has, however, been training her sister to carry on the family tradition.
This event has grown every year. Last year just over 200 people attended. This year, the expectation was for 250, but Aubrey had prepared for as many as 300.
