Missouri Baptist Children’s Home began in a rented residence of 12
rooms at 2651 Morgan Street, St. Louis, in April, 1886. In May, 1887,
a permanent location for the Home was purchased at 1906 Lafayette
Avenue in St. Louis. This building was occupied until 1907 when the
Home was moved to “Pattonville” Missouri in west St. Louis County.
This community is now called “Bridgeton.”
Missouri Baptist Children’s Home was St. Louis-based until the early
1980’s when the administration and board of trustees began developing
a “regional concept” of Missouri Baptist childcare. The Byrne Campus
opened in 1985 in the Kansas City suburb of Peculiar. The next year, MBCH expanded to Southwest Missouri with the opening of the Hutchens
Campus in Mt. Vernon. In the fall of 1990, the Greg Dalton Campus
opened in Lamar. Finally, the McMikle Campus opened in 1995 as MBCH
expanded to the Southeast Missouri town of East Prairie.
Over
the last two decades, MBCH opened regional offices in Branson,
Hannibal, Jefferson City,
Joplin, Lee’s Summit, Springfield and St. Joseph.
In
2001, the MBCH Board of Trustees voted to create “MBCH Properties” as
an affiliate corporation which would own, manage and develop the
campus properties.
